READING
Keeping something
from a book.
Finishing a book and remembering it are different tasks. A useful note does not need to reproduce the whole argument. It needs to preserve a thought you can return to.
Begin with a question
What changed your mind? What remains unclear? What would you like to try? Answer one of these in your own words, then record the page that prompted it.
Leave room for a second reading
A note can be provisional. Keep the original observation separate from later comments, so that it is possible to see how your understanding develops.
